Young Impact is a non-profit organization that wants to activate youngsters to make a social contribution based on their talent and interests. With the question of how they can better support their target audience in discovering and designing a so-called challenge, they came to digital agency Greenberry.

Strategy

Framing the brief

Since the brief was quite complex, we had to narrow down our focus. By using a clear strategic outline we managed to set clear goals for this project and get the client on board with our approach. It also helped us when we had discussions about the direction we should take with the overall concept. Some of the insights we used:

  • The solution should join seamlessly with existing touchpoints
  • The value to participate should be clear at all times
  • We will focus on the inspiration and activation phase of the journey

Ideation

Co-creation with the client

One of the key things in our process was the close collaboration with Young Impact. They were involved every step of the way. We facilitated an ideation session to get all of our ideas on paper. By using an impact effort matrix we quickly had an overview of all the feasible ideas we came up with. The ideation session was also the starting point to work from an idea to a prototype.

Concept

From idea to prototype

Just like you would configure a car, so you put together your Young Impact challenge. It’s easy, visual and fun to do. By answering surprising statements or questions, you build a profile around your interests, talents and type of challenge. You then complete the challenge based on examples or join challenges in your area. This way, you can easily discover a challenge that really suits you and that motivates you as much as possible to make a positive impact.

Focus group

Involving the target audience

During the concept development stage, we involved several youngsters to give feedback. I facilitated the remote focus group and asked a few general questions about volunteering and Young Impact. After the stage was set, we spoke about the concepts and each participant had the opportunity to vote for a specific concept. After that we had some time to discuss the elements of each concept to see why it would or wouldn’t work.

What it is and how it works

Young Impact coach

Our research showed that youngsters need support in their journey of starting a challenge. Part of our solution was to put the Young Impact coach at the center of communication. A way for youngsters to easily reach out if they have any questions. The Young Impact coach was also part of a new content strategy where they answer Q&A’s.

Discover your talent and interests

To support youngsters to find out what their talents and interests are, the Young Impact Creator shows ‘This or That’ questions. By answering these we were able to provide them with a clear ‘Creator Profile’, which can be seen as a kick-off of their challenge.

Local inspiration

To maximize the opportunity for youngsters to start a challenge, we show local stories and challenges based on postal code. This way, the youngsters can get a clear picture and how they can start a challenge in their own area.

Creator profile

Based on the answers, youngsters will get a clear profile with their interests and talents. But that’s not all. Youngsters can also read inspiring stories from previous challenges. They can see challenges nearby and can adjust challenge that fit their profile.

Activation

Social campaign

When the web app launched, it was part of a series called ‘Samen kunnen we niet Stuk’ from the popular YouTube channel StukTV. The web app was also part of a social campaign where influencers like Qucee mentioned the Young Impact Creator to drive traffic.
